Meet Liana Douillet Guzmán, CEO of Folx Health, a digital healthcare service for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Douillet Guzmán: Revolutionizing LGBTQIA+ Healthcare with Folx Health

Douillet Guzmán, an influential member of the LGBTQIA+ community herself, believes that the existing healthcare model is discriminatory towards the queer community. According to her, individuals within the community are more susceptible to heart disease, mental health issues, and face unique challenges when starting families. However, she is determined to change this narrative and provide a platform where LGBTQIA+ individuals can access specialized and inclusive healthcare.
Before being appointed as the CEO of Folx Health, Douillet Guzmán was the CMO of the renowned online learning platform, Skillshare. In 2021, she was approached by A.G. Breitenstein, the founder and then-CEO of Folx Health, who was searching for someone capable of taking charge of the company’s day-to-day operations. Douillet Guzmán embarked on her journey with a “first principles” approach, envisioning what LGBTQIA+ healthcare should truly look like. The answer was a diverse network of queer and trans specialized clinicians offering a wide range of services ranging from primary care to family planning and hormone replacement therapy.
Revolutionizing LGBTQIA+ Healthcare
Folx Health is not just an affirming space for the queer community; it goes beyond that. Douillet Guzmán and her team evaluate the existing healthcare resources available to LGBTQIA+ individuals and build expertise around those services. Their aim is to tackle the challenges often faced by the community, such as long wait-lists for expert care or living in areas without access to competent healthcare providers. To address these issues, Folx Health has partnered with clinicians who have decades of experience in caring for the LGBTQIA+ community. By enabling them to work remotely, they ensure that individuals who require longer-term care have reduced wait times, typically ranging from just two to five days. In contrast, the national average wait time for gender-affirming hormone therapy is a staggering six months.
Overcoming Challenges
Folx Health operates in a society that remains deeply divided, particularly when it comes to trans issues. Douillet Guzmán cites the example of Florida, where a recent law was passed to restrict trans individuals from receiving necessary healthcare. In such a challenging environment, Folx Health strives to maintain their startup mindset, remaining nimble and quickly responsive to shifting legislative landscapes. Simultaneously, they remain committed to long-term growth and investment in their mission to revolutionize LGBTQIA+ healthcare.
The Personal Side of Douillet Guzmán
Douillet Guzmán is not your typical aspiring CEO. She never set out with the ambition to lead a company. Instead, her primary focus has always been her two children, who serve as her North Star. The unexpected opportunity to become the CEO of Folx Health was not part of her plan, but it has become a crucial avenue for her to shape the future of LGBTQIA+ healthcare.
