Diverging from the traditional trend, Las Vegas emerged as the most sought-after city, occupying the number one spot on Redfin’s list for the first time ever. The Las Vegas housing market’s allure is primarily driven by its affordability. Redfin’s research highlights that the average cost of a home in Las Vegas is less than half the price of one in major California cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Additionally, Phoenix and Tampa also secured positions among the most popular destinations for aspiring homebuyers, following closely in the footsteps of Las Vegas. These cities present an attractive proposition due to their relatively lower cost of living compared to locations like Los Angeles and San Francisco. Many of the favorite cities on Redfin’s list boasted warm climates and affordable housing prices, with five out of the top ten destinations located in Florida.

To determine the desirability of each city, Redfin calculated the results based on net inflow. This methodology subtracts the number of searches aiming to leave a specific metro area from the number of searches expressing interest in moving there.
